It is with deep regret the Chief of the Department announces the passing of Fire Chief Bradley B. Payne- Retired.

Chief Payne served the City of Keene for 32 years and retired as Fire Chief on June 28, 2003.

Chief Payne started with the department on April 19, 1971 assigned to the Ladder Company. He became a permanent firefighter on July 5, 1976. He was promoted to Lieutenant February 23, 1984 and to Captain- Operations November 1, 1988. He was promoted to Captain- Fire Prevention June 1, 1993. Chief Payne was promoted to Deputy Chief- Administration on October 23, 1998. He served as acting Fire Chief starting June 5, 1999 until his appointment to Chief of Department on August 30, 1999.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date per the family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Andrea and their daughter Hannah.
