ICE RESCUE TRAINING

The 2011 season of Ice Rescue Training programs conducted by Lifesaving Resources will kick off on January 22. We will be conducting 3 Technician level courses, along with our annual International Ice Rescue Train-the-Trainer Academy.

At the same time, our over 300 authorized instructors will be conducting Ice Rescue Awareness, Operations, and Technician level courses throughout the U.S. and parts of Canada.

The Ice Rescue Technician level course is a comprehensive and fast-paced 8-hour training program consisting of 3-hours classroom, and 5-hours of on/through-the-ice practical evolutions. The courses are conducted at the Lifesaving Resources' Water and Ice Rescue Training Center in historic Harrisville, New Hampshire and the courses are conducted from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. The dates for the Technician level courses include:

Saturday, January 22 Saturday, February 05 Saturday, March 05

Tuition includes books, materials, snacks, lunch, certificates and insignia. These courses meet and exceed NFPA 1670 Standard for Technical Rescue, and all courses start and end on time.

The annual International Train-the-Trainer Academy will be conducted in Keene, New Hampshire February 17 - 20 (Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon). The Academy includes over 32 hours of contact hours during which time participants are trained as Ice Rescue Instructors. Upon successful completion of the Academy, graduates are authorized to conduct Ice Rescue Awareness, Operations, and Technician level courses on behalf of their own departments. Tuition includes meals, lodging (at the downtown Keene Marriott), books, materials, insignia, etc.

FORTY YEAR LIFE MEMBER OF NEWBROOK FD PASSES AWAY

It is with deep regret that the NewBrook FD announces the passing of Donald Williams. Don was a 40 year life member of NewBrook. He was also a past fire chief. There will be calling hours on Saturday Jan 8th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm with a memorial service at 8 pm at the Whites Funeral home on Main Street in Townshend Vt. There will also be a celebration of Donald's life at the NewBrook fire station on Sunday Jan 9th at 1 pm. All are welcome to attend.

WHITINGHAM FIRST ALARM HOUSE FIRE DECEMBER 18,2010 0248 HOURS

Here are some photo's of our last 1st Alarm. This whole chimney had a wood structure covering the chimney. It was fully involved when we arrived. The first engine on scene was 94 Engine 1 from the Whitingham Station which quickly knocked down the fire before it made its way into the internal structure. We cut the rest of the burning structure down with our vent saw which gave us access to the area where the stove pipe goes into the house where it connects to the wood stove on the other side of the roof. FDNY BATTALION CHIEF JOHN SALKA IS COMING TO SPEAK IN KEENE,NH

Save the date of Saturday February 12,2011. FDNY Battalion Chief John Salka is coming to speak in Keene,NH. More details will be released soon. Salka

John Salka is an FDNY battalion chief with over 30 years on the job and he currently works in the Bronx. He has written numerous articles over the years for the FDNY magazine "WNYF" and has also contributed articles to Fire Engineering, Size-Up and Firehouse magazine, where he writes the monthly column "The Fire Scene". Chief Salka's books, "First In, Last Out" (2004) and "The Engine Company" (2009) are based on his experiences working in the FDNY from his appointment in 1979 throught the next three decades. Chief Salka writes and lectures on fire service subjects and Leadership to public service organizations, private industry, military and fire service audiences.
