LINE OF DUTY DEATH-BURLINGTON,VT LT. STEVEN COSTELLO

It is with deepest regret and sorrow to report the line-of-duty death of Lieutenant Steven N. "Vinny" Costello of IAFF Local 3044 - Burlington, Vermont. Brother Costello, 46, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2010 after suffering cardiac arrest a week earlier while on duty. The viewing will be held on Monday, August 2, 2010 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Ready Funeral Home, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington, Vermont 05401, (802) 862-0991. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ira Allen Chapel, University of Vermont Campus, Burlington, Vermont 05405.

All uniformed personnel are asked to park and stage at the Sheraton Conference Center in Burlington - exit 14 off interstate 89. All uniformed personnel are asked to be at the Sheraton no later than 9:30 a.m. Buses will begin running at 8:30. There is no parking available at Ira Allen Chapel. Honor Guard members are asked to attend, no department apparatus. Reception will follow on the campus of UVM.

JAFFREY BATTLES 2ND ALARM FIRE

On 06/17/2010 at approximately 11:02 hours the Jaffrey Fire Department was dispatched to 41 Tyler Hill Road in Jaffrey for a report of smoke coming from a two story residential dwelling. Upon arrival of the Jaffrey Fire Department Fire Chief he found a two story residential home moderate to heavy smoke coming from the second floor and attic area. Further investigation determined that there was a working fire in the second floor of the building and at this point the fire was upgraded to a 2nd alarm and an aggressive interior fire attack was begun by the first arriving Jaffrey Engine Crew with the assistance of several mutual aid fire department. No occupants were home at the time of the fire. The home owner’s pets where removed safely from the building prior to the arrival of the chief, by neighbors.The fire was declared under control at 12:57 and the last crews cleared the scene at 14:33 hours. The Fire is being investigated by the Jaffrey Fire Department, and the Jaffrey Police Department, and appears to be accidental at this time, but is under further investigation. Jaffrey Fire/Rescue was assisted on scene by Peterborough Fire/Rescue, Rindge Fire/Rescue, Keene Fire/Rescue, Meadowood, New Ipswich Fire/Rescue, Dublin Fire/Rescue, Jaffrey Police Department, Jaffrey Ambulance, Cheshire County Sheriff’s Department, PSNH and the American Red Cross. UNITY NH FIGHTS BARN AND HOUSE FIRE 05/21/2010
